60s stormy sensation

There was a new sensation in the early 60s when Chubby Checker invited everyone to dance to The Twist and Let’s Twist Again. Around the same time, the charts began to conquer a new style, born in America’s Detroit automobile heart (Motor Town) and dubbed “motown”. At the top of popularity were The Supremes, The Temptations, Marvin Ray, The Miracles, Mary Wells and “Kid” Stevie Wonder. Subsequently, Diana Ross from The Supremes and Stevie Wonder became a legend in the music industry.

Two weeks after the release of The Supremes, Buttered Popcorn, the debut single in the United States, four young men – John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Pete Best, who called their group The Beatles – began regular performances in the Liverpool club Cavern. A year later, after Besta replaced the new drummer Ringo Starr, the group recorded the song Love Me Do. After that came Please Please Me, She Loves You, I Wanna Hold Your Hand and a number of other songs that became hits. In 1964, The Beatles went on tour in New York, where they were met by thousands of exalted fans.

The sixties passed under the sign of the undivided domination of the Beatles, and over time, selling more than a billion records and cassettes, they became the most popular group of all time. The influential music weekly Rolling Stone wrote that “the sound of The Beatles combines Chuck Berry and Little Richard, Elvis and country rock, vocal harmony from duop to Everly Brothers and Beach Boys, the romanticism of Buddy Holly and the sweet pop for high school students Phil Spector ” The Beatles quickly topped the Liverpool star rating, which included Gerry and The Pacemakers, Freddy and the Dreamers, Billy J Kramer and The Dakotas and Silla Black. British rock has taken over the world thanks to The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds. The Hollies, The Searchers, The Kinks, and other giants leading the charts on both sides of the Atlantic.

In 1970, The Beatles fell apart and began to work alone. Contrary to rumors, they never performed together. Their solo albums sold so well. In 1980, John Lennon was shot dead by a maniac in New York. Like the death of Presley, his death was the beginning of the end of an era for an entire generation. In part, the secret of The Beatles’ tremendous success was that their lyrical and tuneful ballads fell in love with the parents of teenagers who were naughty under their own louder fateful beat.

The Rolling Stones – another famous British rock band competing in popularity with The Beatles – was by no means a success with a generation of parents. Thanks to their harsh and sometimes hurtful sound, these rock centenarians, who have been playing for almost 40 years, have personified rock and roll for millions of teenagers. This also applied to The Who, which was founded by Roger Daltry, Pete Townsend and John Entwistle in 1962. Their violent and often obscene antics, both on stage and in life, strongly criticized the older generation.

Today, the rock group most often plays two solo guitars, a bass guitar, drums, often keyboards, and sometimes wind instruments, especially a saxophone. Increasingly sophisticated sound recording technologies and electronic tools allow current artists to achieve incredibly surround sound and amazing effects not only in the studio, but also at concerts. Among the pioneers in applying these effects were The Beatles. Progressive rock

Rock music, distinguished by skill and complexity of performance and intended more for listening than for dancing, was called “progressive rock”. The compositions of Pink Floyd, Genesis and other “progressives” were striking in their virtuosity of performance, rich sound and drama. Often their concerts turned into a vivid show with a fantastic play of light and sound.

Other groups, in particular Cream, preferred not to complicate their music, relying mainly on the incredibly high technique of playing in long, rich and loud improvisations. Over time, this trend has given rise to a new style called heavy metal, in which the lead part is usually played by an electric guitar, as, for example, in Led Zeppelin compositions.

Another branch of the genre was punk rock (punk – in English “tear”, “hooliganism”) – much more straightforward and straightforward, but equally deafening. The Clash and Sex Pistols were particularly popular with punk bands and unanimous antipathy among their parents.

Some of the pioneers of rock and roll are no longer alive. Many of the groups that laid the foundation for whole trends and styles have long since broken up. But their music lives on record. Continuously giving birth to new stars and a new sound, rock and roll continues to have a significant impact on all modern music. Pop music, which does not have a pronounced stylistic coloring, mainly draws its elements from other styles – soul, folk, country and western, trying in this way to please everyone.
