BEST GRANGE ALBUMS OF ALL TIMES

The term “grunge rock” has never been properly defined. Some consider it a subgenre of alternative rock music that emerged in the late 1980s around Seattle. Only a few immigrants from this state have identified themselves with this subgenre, but many of these groups remain incredibly popular to this day.

On November 13, Soundgarden released their first album in sixteen years. Rolling Stone decided this was the right time to interview readers of the music genre in order to identify the best grunge albums of all time.
10. Mudhoney – Superfuzz Bigmuff
When the Green River rock band broke up in 1987, bassist Jeff Ament and guitarist Stone Gossard continued to form Mother Love Bone, which became Pearl Jam after the death of lead singer Andrew Wood. Green River frontman Mark Arm and guitarist Steve Turner left the other direction to form Mudhoney. Although they never had anything to do with the success of Pearl Jam, Mudhoney immediately found loyal listeners. Superfuzz Bigmuff’s debut mini-album is an absolute grunge classic.
9. Temple of the Dog – Temple of the Dog
The sudden death of Andrew Wood caused shock in Seattle. To pay tribute to Mother Love Bone, the remaining band members teamed up with Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell (former Wood roommate) to record a tribute album called Temple of the Dog. The album’s release was not popular, but after the Pearl Jam skyrocketed in 1991, fans immediately rushed to find it.
8. Pearl Jam – Vs.
Pearl Jam’s debut album, Ten, was sold in huge numbers, and Eddie Vedder almost immediately became an international rock star and sex symbol. After endless tours from 1991 to 1992, the band got a new producer – Brendan O’Brien. From that moment, the members of Pearl Jam began work on the album Vs., which, although it was a huge success, could not compare with the sales of the previous studio work.
7. Nirvana – Bleach
At the end of 1988, Nirvana signed a contract with the indie label Sub Pop. It took only 30 hours to record the Bleach album in a couple of weeks. Kurt Cobain later claimed to have written most of the texts the night before the first studio session. The album was not popular among listeners, however, the overwhelming success of Nevermind allowed to increase sales of the first release.
6. Soundgarden – Badmotorfinger
Badmotorfinger appeared in stores in October 1991, but few outside Seattle knew about Soundgarden. However, music industry experts knew that this was a good time to break through. Some songs, including Rusty Cage, were more commercially successful than previous releases.
5. Soundgarden – Superunknown
Soundgarden members have written amazing songs, including Black Hole Sun, Spoonman, and Fell On Black Days. The vast majority of famous songs became popular in part because Soundgarden videos were constantly shown on MTV. Kurt Cobain committed suicide a few weeks after the release of the album, and the Pearl Jam lost their fans.
4. Nirvana – In Utero
Nirvana was in a difficult position when it was time to record her next album, Nevermind. Fans held their breath in anticipation of another major release. However, the group was not happy with the result, as they no longer felt the former energy. Scott Litt helped reissue some of the songs. Although the album was swept away from store shelves, the group still had to go on tour in support of the disc. After some time, they were forced to abandon this in connection with Kurt’s drug addiction. In In Utero, the music is pretty aggressive and tougher than the songs from Nevermind, but today this album is considered an absolute classic.
3. Alice In Chains – Dirt
Alice In Chains debuted in 1990 when Facelift became a hit. Their next release, Dirt, has gained even greater popularity. This is due to the love of a huge army of fans who love the singles Rooster, Them Bones and Down in a Hole.
2. Nirvana – Nevermind
Just a few months after its release, Nevermind was able to beat Michael Jackson’s Dangerous record in popularity. The album is firmly established on top of charts around the world. Groups of the eighties of the last century, including INXS, Def Leppard, Motley Crüe and Dire Straits, suddenly seemed very old to the audience. Everyone knows how the band’s story ended, but after the overwhelming success of Nevermind, it seemed that Nirvana was going to rule the world of music for years to come.
1. Pearl Jam – Ten
A month before the release of Nevermind, Pearl Jam released their debut album, Ten. Naturally, these two discs will compete for the title of best grunge album of all time, and as a result, the debut album Pearl Jam won with a slight margin of 12 votes. As Rolling Stone notes, both albums received twice as many votes as any other disc on this list.
