Elvis and Cadillacs
Elvis Presley became famous not only as the king of rock and roll, but also as a true fan of high-quality expensive cars. His favorite brand was Cadillac. Elvis admired them from a very young age. At that very young age, he once promised his mother that he would grow up and buy her two whole Cadillacs. He fulfilled his promise: the first was the Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special, on which he himself occasionally rode due to a lack of a driver’s license with his mother, and the second was a convertible.
Eldorado, which Elvis did not like, he later gave it to his fan. There is an original story about how he repainted the car in a different color: he took the grapes and just crushed them on the hood, then asked to paint it in such a color as grapes.
Elvis’s most unusual was the 1975 Gold Fleetwood. After serving in the army, he ordered another Cadillac. Moreover, the rims and rims of the headlights were made of gold. The color of the car is mother-of-pearl. The paint contained diamond dust, and 40 layers were applied! Inside the car, a telephone, a TV, a refrigerator and even a record player were installed. The engine power of the machine in horsepower is 345, the engine could accelerate it to 185 km / h. This car was just incredibly beautiful, and Elvis, seeing it, without hesitation, gave a hundred thousand dollars for it. Now this amount is not as unrealistic as in those days.
Five years later, it happened that the Cadillac described above bothered Presley. Accordingly, the time has come to order a new one. The next was a 1966 Cadillac Eldorado model with front-wheel drive, which was rare at the time. The model has preserved all the best, taken from previous Elvis cars. But, unfortunately, this wonderful machine was made too long and was completed only after the death of the king of rock and roll.
In total, Presley had more than a hundred Cadillacs. And the hearse at his funeral was the Cadillac Meteor Landau Traditional with 40 white Cadillacs accompanied. After his death, all unique cars were sold at auctions. Many millions of dollars were raised, which went to charity. Nowadays, these cars can be seen in personal collections or museums.
It is noteworthy that at present, rock stars are not keen on collecting cars. Such oddities are seen by rap artists.
